NAMIWalks fundraiser helps those with mental illness

Registration is now open for NAMIWalks Your Way, the annual fundraiser for

the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.

It will be held Oct. 9 at Opti-Park Indianapolis, 780 E. 66th St., and will be in compliance with COVID-19 guidelines. NAMIWalks Your Way also will include a virtual option.

One in three U.S. adults reported experiencing depression or anxiety since the pandemic began. NAMI’s programs and advocacy will benefit from the event.

Participants will meet at Opti-Park Indianapolis. Those who want to participate virtually can:

  • Walk 7,000+ steps for a 5K their way

  • Plan a craft day with their kids

  • Hold a virtual bake-off with their team

  • Practice self-care with a favorite hobby: yoga, gardening, knitting

  • Do a 5K on the treadmill or stationary bike

  • Create a safe and socially distanced stroll in their neighborhood

You can take photos and videos and share your activity on favorite social media with the link to your walk fundraising page and the hashtag #NotAlone.
