Patty Spitler is one of the first guests on 'UnPHILtered'

Phil Sanchez talks to Patty Spitler about her new book.

Patty has a new book and Phil has a new show!

Put them together and you have one former WISH-TV news anchor and one current WISH-TV news anchor having a lively conversation on UnPHILtered, a new segment following News 8 at 11 with Phil Sanchez. News 8 at 11 is a reformatted weekday 30-minute show delivering late news.

Viewers get all of the day’s headlines and weather forecast followed by UnPHILtered, which features interviews with community newsmakers, two-sided debates on pertinent local and national topics as well as community feel-good stories.

In a future sement, Phil will talk to Patty Spitler about her new autobiography, The Dog Who Saved My Life, which talks about her years as a WISH-TV news anchor and entertainment reporter from 1982 to 2004. She retired due to Meniere's Disease, an inner ear condition that prevented her from hearing the live prompts from the news producers. She now is the host, reporter and producer for Pet Pals TV and Great Day TV with Patty Spitler, half-hour magazine shows that accommodate her hearing loss.

Her book reflects on her television and radio years as well as her upbringing in Dayton, Ohio.

"Critters and celebrities . . . if you like either one then this book is for you," says Patty. "Plus a portion of the proceeds goes to rescues and shelters. It's a win-win!"

“Patty is one of the most authentic personalities to ever work in the Indy market," says Phil. "She’s a great interview and never holds back. The book will make you laugh and cry. What I liked most about it is that when you read the book, you can hear Patty telling the stories.” Phil serves as the news anchor of News 8 at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m. and now News 8 at 11 with Phil Sanchez. As an experienced, award-winning journalist who has worked in local news for nearly 20 years, Phil brings his own unique perspective to the community.

"Phil Sanchez is a trusted anchor and reporter," says Patty. "He has my highest regard for his integrity and intelligence. The fact that such a media professional asked me to talk to him about my book on UnPHILtered gives me great joy." If you are unable to get Channel 8 on your cable carrier, you can go to and stream it live.
