Culinary delights at American Senior Communities' Chef Showdown

On the most recent edition of “Great Day TV,” host Patty Spitler sat down with News 8’s Gina Glaros and Dennis Raney, the director of culinary services at American Senior Communities, to talk about their Chef Showdown.

Chef Showdown is a competition between nine chefs each representing a different region, according to Raney. He says that each representative has already won a competition in their region in order to be at Chef Showdown.

Raney says that events like these are important both so that the chefs can show off their artistry, but also so that the residents of these senior communities can have delicious food.

“I think that’s sometimes more important, you know, is making sure that you’re out there talking to those residents, making sure that the menus that we’re serving are the menus that they like,” said Raney. “The chef’s talking to the residents, getting that information back to me, and helping make those menus more creative, more exciting, and just better all the way around.”

Each chef gets four random ingredients, according to Raney. He says that part of the fun with this competition is seeing how creative the chefs can get within the constraints.
