I had to look it up to make sure it was true. When I received the synopsis of actor Jon Cryer's latest podcast, it just sounded too unfathomable to be a true story.
The podcast is called The Man Who Calculated Death. It is a captivating narrative podcast that explores the intriguing family history of Cryer's friend, reporter Suzanne Rico, and her discovery that her grandfather created a weapon for Hitler.
Cryer recounted a pivotal moment that sparked the podcast's creation: "I sort of blithely mentioned that I was a huge fan of the space race . . . She said, oh, my grandfather worked on the space program. And I said, oh, that's so cool . . . She said, yeah, yeah, before that he worked for Hitler."
This shocking revelation led to a deep dive into Suzanne's family history, revealing layers of trauma and mystery.
Cryer also reflected on the challenges of producing such a profound podcast, saying, "This is not the kind of thing I generally produce . . . but seeing a friend go through this . . . it was just this incredibly daunting, challenging thing." The dedication and effort put into the podcast are evident, as Suzanne traveled extensively to gather stories and conduct interviews, ultimately leading to the resolution of an 80-year-old mystery.
