Patty's Picks: ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ could bring families back to theaters

The “Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is winning at the box office game. Movie critic Patty Spitler shares her review of the film.

Starring Chris Pratt, Brie Larson, and Jack Black, the story follows Mario and Luigi as they travel into outer space to rescue Rosalina, encountering new characters along the way, including a dragon they befriend.

The movie runs 1 hour and 39 minutes. It is rated PG for mild violence and rude humor. According to movie reviewer Patty Spitler, the production is based on a video game franchise that began several years ago.

Spitler reviewed the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster, calling it a cash cow and rating it 2.5 stars, but praising its production quality.

Spitler called the movie a strong choice for family outings. “If you’re a parent wanting to take your 10-year-olds to a movie, this could be your ticket,” Spitler said. She added, building on this idea, that sequels are a successful way to bring families back to movie theaters.
