Patty's Picks: Tom Cruise unrecognizable in dark-themed 'Digger'
On this week’s “Patty’s Picks,” film critic Patty Spitler reviews the new thriller "Digger" and shares her take on the movie.
Tom Cruise plays a billionaire oil tycoon whose drilling operation could have devastating consequences for the climate. The role also features a significant transformation in Cruise’s appearance, making him look considerably different from the actor audiences are accustomed to seeing.
The film also stars John Goodman, who appears with a dramatically different look.
“Digger” is rated R and runs 2 hours, 9 minutes. Although it is marketed as an action-comedy, Patty said she considers it more of a disaster film.
The movie tackles dark themes and political issues, elements Patty said contributed to her reaction to the film. “It’s very dark and it’s very mean, and it’s got some politics in it,” she said. “It’s a movie that you either love it or hate it.”
Patty said Cruise deserves credit for taking on a role that is different from his usual projects. She noted that the actor has appeared in more than 50 films during his career.
How many stars does she give it? Watch and see!
